My legs that is. I think my high mileage weeks and the faster paces this particular week have taken it’s toll. As a result I am taking today as a rest day with the potential of tmrw too. I think this is a smart move because I hit my projected weekly mileage after yesterday’s long run! Hard decision because when I woke up this morning the weather was perfect for a run.
As I just mentioned, yesterday I did a long run. 14.1 miles. Given the accumulation of miles on my body I’m actually a little surprised that my legs aren’t feeling worse than they are now. Especially since the second half of that run was extremely fast. I don’t have a garmin or any other fancy-schmancy equipment but my overall pace was fast. I know that the first 6 or so miles were very slow because I just felt so weighted down. This summer has taken a toll on me and the past few days of relaxation let my body and mind really play catch-up.
But back to the run. The temps were in the low 70s which is ok. But the real kicker was that there was so little humidity! It felt almost heavenly to run yesterday! I suspect that this influenced the pace in the latter half of the run, it’s amazing what energy the humidity can zap out of you. I did feel a little dehydrated and sleepy the rest of the day though but nothing serious, just the after effect of a hard long run. Perfect opportunity to lie on the couch and have a trashy mag in front of me with some trashy tv on in the background. Yes, I am that person who both has something in front of them and the tv on too. And doesn’t really pay attention to either. Don’t judge. Haha.
Again, it is so nice to not have to worry about studying or having studying be my life. But after taking a mental holiday the past few days I don’t want to jump back into the article I’m writing or the essay application I’m supposed to be writing. Oh inertia!
My younger sister just asked me to go for a 3 mile run with her. Hmmmm. Decisions decisions. I think I’ll just pump up the tires in a bike and ride next to her. Going to be very hard to give up the opportunity to run but my legs will thank me later.
Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!
