Three Things Thursday

AKA: What I do when I’m feeling uninspired for a post 😉

Except by now we all know how I feel about odd numbers.  So Four Things Thursday it shall be.

1. This song was (and still is) stuck in my head. Normally when I’m linking to songs/videos I just search and link.  Today I felt compelled to listen to this song in its entirety. Enjoy.  Because you know I’ve just re-listened to it about, oh I don’t know, a billion times already.

2. My running went well this morning.  My sleeping? Not so much.  I did “sleep in” today (aka I woke up early and couldn’t fall asleep so I went out on the couch and watched an episode of NCIS and thus was “up” at a later time than usual) and settled on running only 7 miles.  Well that was the plan.  And I was going to stick to it because it was absolutely FREEZING last night again.  And I hate being out in the cold. I got up at 0530 and forgot to check the temp but when I remembered 2 hours later it was only 46*.  It’s not even officially fall yet and overnight temps are cold.  But I went slightly longer than planned and I felt a surge of energy at the end which I made the decision (very likely against my better judgment) to add my typical extra bit.  Not to get too psycho-analytical on myself but I think me craving the long run is myself being REALLY EFFING SCARED for this 5k.

Exactly how I feel. Thank you google images for capturing it

3. I met with my pre-health advisor this morning.  The meeting went really well.  I’m going to leave it at that (sorry but I just don’t want to go into details so this #3 thing is a bit evasive! But I’m all smiles because of it so I’m going to be mean and secretive about it 😛 ). It feels exciting and right even though nothing is set in stone. While this makes me nervous because I am such a planner to the max, I feel strangely calm, like I talked about yesterday.  But there are sketches of ideas so I’m not completely shunning my Type-A ness. I’m still a go-getter 😀

Thank you google images

4.  It’s almost Friday.  And that’s a good thing because it means I’m closer to my margarita party with the roomies.

Holler.

So there you have it.  My four things.  I probably could have written more.  Funny how I decided to do this type of post because “I didn’t have anything to write about” because I feel like I could have written 4 more things.  I think I just like doing bullet points and having randomness. And I would have written more except it’s a clinic day.  So I’m likely running around all crazy at work by the time you read this.  Such is life.  But I really can’t lie and say that I’m miserable because I love it 😀

Enjoy your Thursdays!

And I was going to link a picture for “margarita” in my #4 thing but I decided that it might make today longer than it has to be.

  1. Wah! The song thing is not showing up for me!
What? YOU scared for a 5k? Good Lord why? Just go and win it would ya?
Glad the pre-health meeting is making you smile!

  2. OK the song loaded. Now it’ll be stuck in my head too!

  3. Hope you’re being secretly happy about some MCAT scores. 🙂

    Comment by Chelsea — September 16, 2010 @ 16:32

    • Maybe, maybe not. We’ll just have to wait and see in the early spring when I know more. Because even I don’t know what’s going down.

  4. I second Chelsea.

Also, I really love writing in bullet points. I always get scared to ramble because I feel like no one cares. But oddly I like reading bullets/random thoughts of the day on other peoples blog too (aka yours) so maybe I’ll do it more often. I agree it’s a great thing to do when you don’t know what to write!

PS. Any chance you’re racing this weekend? If not I’ll definitely be seeing you at the 10K in October!

    • See above response to Chelsea’s comment.

Aaaaaaaaaand I think I’m racing elsewhere and not in Boston. Bummer. But YES to Tufts. I’ve been looking forward to this race forever!

  5. I should probably write in bullet points more often. Because I’m pretty scattered in my ramblings… ha

And that picture of the guy with the water balloon cracked me up for a good couple of minutes… ah the little things in life!

    • The water balloon picture still cracks me up! Even if I’m not looking at it!

  6. I like number 4 the best. I need a weekend.

  7. Umm YEAH cold mornings! I have stayed snuggled in my covers lately! Dont know what I am going to do when its 20F or colder!

  8. Don’t be scared. Get EXCITED. I say this as someone who is terrified of 5Ks, but I think I dole out better advice than I follow. I have very high hopes for you, dude.

  9. SARAH IS 100% RIGHT.

Then best thing a teammate ever said to me before a (rowing time trial) i was really nervous about was, “I’m excited to see what I can do!” I had been jabbering about how nervous I was. Whereas, she was excited. And it flipped this switch in me, like, “holy shiz, I have all this fitness, I’ve worked so hard, wait a minute – I’m excited to see what I can do, too!” You have put in so many miles, made so many gains, this 5K is just an opportunity to have fun with it and see what the heck you can lay down. And if it goes poorly, no big deal because you havent raced one in forev. = It’s just a starting point.

    • I’m excited. For sure. But also very scared at the same time!

  10. Wow, sounds like there’s a lot of fun and exciting things going on! Running is going well too right? Awesomeness! Enjoy your margarita party with the roomies!

    Comment by The Laminator — September 17, 2010 @ 00:28

    • Running is going very well (especially after the half a few weeks ago!). We’ll see exactly how well after this weekend I hope.

  11. Hehe I love the personality picture! Enjoy the margarita party, sounds fun 🙂

    Comment by Laura — September 17, 2010 @ 03:55

  12. I hate odd numbers too!! I can’t believe it was only 46 degrees there – to me, that’s pretty close to perfect running temps! Don’t stress about your 5K – I have a feeling you will rock it 🙂 Happy weekend (and margarita party!)

    Comment by Kelly — September 17, 2010 @ 09:15

  13. i have been sleeping horribly!!! and getting up early not to run but to go to work (at 7! wah!). hopefully you get some sleep this weekend. my life has been out of control but i like it so far. classes are awesome and the work is a really great fit. i actually have started “wanting” to do a bit longer runs (meaning 8-9) b/c it means i don’t have to go as fast, perhaps, hah. trying to go fast is a lot of pressure sometimes!!! so come up here and do 2 x6:30 with me, if you’re here maybe we could do 6:20s cuz we’d feed off each other. plan?

    Comment by Lacey — September 17, 2010 @ 10:38

    • We’d totally feed off each other! I really wished we were next door neighbors — just think how even more awesome we’d be 🙂

  14. I won’t lie, 5ks are tough. Unlike a 10k or HM, there is no time to recover from an early mistake. That said, you are very good about “gutting it out” so I will give you the best advice given to me for 5ks – go out hard for mile 1, try to hold it for mile 2, and dig as deep as you can to survive mile 3. The pain will be over quickly.
